Oprah for Obama

Guess no one should be surprised by that.  It’s been obvious for a while.  But, to find the Queen of Daytime TV on the campaign trail is more than anyone could have expected several months ago.

What is it about Obama that got Oprah stump stomping?  Change?  Was that it?  Or, was it that her “blackness” won over her “femininity”?  Either way, it was an impressive event, Oprah on stage with Obama.  And, let’s face it folks, she gave one hell of a speech.

As far as I’m concerned, Oprah’s motivation is of little concern.  She did something important for all of America.  She brought people out of their houses to political events.  Even the least likely among the attendees had to hear something that caught their attention and hopefully will hold it long enough to get them to the Iowa Caucus or the primary polls.

Once people vote, even if it is ”only a primary”, they feel empowered and maybe that feeling will hold long enough to get them back to the polls next November.  It’s time that we find our voices and our way to the ballot boxes.

I don’t know if I was swayed by Oprah’s rhetoric, but I was impressed that so many people came out and listened.  Now, if she can just get them out to vote!
