New Hampshire Before the Count

The voters are turning out in droves again.  New Hampshire is projecting the largest voter turn out in history.  Within a few hours we will know the winners of the New Hampshire primary.

Over the past day we have seen Hillary have a “real moment”, at least, I considered real.  Let’s face it, she has worked for years, instigating and navigating change.  She has been a winner in every venue.  If there is one downside, whatever the outcome of the primary may be, it’s Bill throwing darts at the media.  The whining isn’t pretty and it shows a weakness that makes everyone uncomfortable.  Hillary has had as much coverage as any of the candidates, more than most.  Rather than blame the media or Obama’s fluid inspirational speeches, perhaps, the Clinton machine should realize that she started out on an offensive foot.  America is a country that pulls for the underdog.  We love to see the new kid on the block rise to the top.  And, I dare say that the sense of entitlement that the Clinton’s portrayed is offensive.

Obama definitely needs to be vetted.  I like his rhetoric.  It’s passes along a nice, feel good sensation of hope.  But, we haven’t gotten down to the nitty gritty yet.  No one has questioned the fine print.  And, with his lack of experience, there is little that he has to answer for.  He is riding a wave of enthusiasm that he created.  Just listen to him speak.  He is mesmerizing.  But, will it hold?

It’s comforting for this old dog to know that Edwards is going to hang in all the way to the convention.  That gives me hope.  Of course, I have complained that Edwards hasn’t received equal media time.  I do believe the corporate media has tried to make this a two man… I should say “two person”… race.  But, Edwards hasn’t gone away.  He hasn’t complained.  He has stayed on point.

I have been critical of his repetitive litany of fighting the corporate greed.  And, today I realized why.  It isn’t that he is stating the battle zone parameters.  It’s that he stops there.  I would like to hear him tell us that he is the man who is willing to take on the corporations.  (Someone needs to.)  But, I would like for him to say tell us more.  Personally, I would like for him to tell us that he’s going to kick ass and then everything will be better.  I would like to hear him tell us that the fight will be hard, but that once the battle is fought and won, we will all be better off and maybe his vision of how his fight will help all of us.  We would be far more likely to vote for him if we could see beyond the battle to the victory on the other side.  Give us hope, once the battle is over.

The Democratic nomination is far from over.  Obama is looking good.  Hillary is understandably looking frustrated.  And, Edwards is showing us what he has been saying.  He will fight the hard fight and he will stick with it until he wins.  I wonder what we will all be saying in June.
