The President’s Message to Middle East

According to the BBC News:  “Confront Iran Danger Early - Bush”

To quote from the BBC article,

Mr Bush said Iran threatened the security of all nations and should be confronted “before it’s too late”.

The article went on the say:

In a speech in Abu Dhabi on the latest leg of a Middle Eastern tour, he also urged the region to embrace democracy.

The article continued:

Mr Bush said spreading freedom and democracy was the best way to defeat radicalism.

According to the report President Bush continued:

Without fair elections and freedom of speech, “you cannot expect people to believe in the promise of a better future”, he added.

Why was I reminded of the election of 2000?  Wasn’t our final vote count 5-4 from the Supreme Court?

And when President Bush holds his “political rallies” why are those people who wear t-shirts that speak counter to Mr. Bush’s agenda “detained” or removed from the area?  So much for freedom of speech!

It is believed that the President went into the Middle East with a more “nuanced” message, but it is doubtful that is how it sounded in the Middle East.  Based on the past seven years in Amercia, I’m not sure his message was that comforting for those of us at home.

Of course, we have all known people who could sincerely apologize and piss you off while doing it.  We also know people who can rip you a new one in such a way that you say, “Thank you.  Unfortunately, President Bush tends more to the former than the latter.
