Clinton and Romney Win Gold in the Silver State
Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney won the jackpot in Nevada.
The Republican caucus was relatively uneventful as Romney was the only Republican to campaign in the state. It seemed to be a forgone conclusion that he would walk away with another western state in his bag. Nevada borders Utah and has a large Mormon population.
If there is an interesting story for Republicans in Nevada, it is that as of this writing Ron Paul is tied with John McCain for second place. It may be a whisper, but the grass roots movement is finding its voice.
On the Democratic side, it was relatively close between Clinton and Obama, against allegations of unions pressuring members to vote for Obama. As it turns out, it was a moot point. Clinton came out ahead and seems to have a little kick returning to South Carolina. John Edwards finished a distant and disappointing third.
The Repubs, and the rest of us, are awaiting the results of their South Carolina primary.
For the Democrats, it is getting ugly amid allegations of voter pressure and negative ads. Obama’s supporters have run an ad saying that Clinton doesn’t respect Hispanics. I would probably have more to say about that except for the fact that the ad is so stupid that anyone who would take it seriously probably won’t vote anyway.
It’s going to be interesting to see where Edwards goes from here. I hope he will stick to his word and stay in the race. He is garnering enough delegates to possibly sway the final Democratic decision.
I can’t wait to get a delegate count on the Republican party after the final count in South Carolina tonight. It could be closer than we think. As the delegates are being divided, it could bring the Republicans to a convention battle and final decision. Wouldn’t it be great to have a party wait until it’s convention to name it’s candidate? Love it.
