Fred is Dead in the Water
Fred Thompson is dead in the political waters off the coast of South Carolina. He be must relieved. It was apparent from day one that he didn’t want to run for President. He just wanted to be President.
John McCain took the South Carolina primary with 33% of the votes, with Mike Huckabee coming in second place with 30% of the talley. But, Fred, who has showed little interest in campaigning and often gave the appearance that he was bored with the process place third with 16% of the totals.
It looks like a three way elephant race among Romney, McCain, and Huckabee. Unfortunately, most Republicans seem to be in the same situation the Dems were in several years back. It’s a vote for the candidate they can best tolerate. None of the GOP candidates has accured a decisive following. If anything the race seems to be delineated by religious preferences and regional familiarity. Of course, McCain appeals to the veterans and those who can’t bring themselves to say that Bush was wrong when he led us into war. There are still a few of those out there.
It should get interesting now. The mud slinging should be right around the conservative corner.
