Heckle, Jeckle and John
While I appreciate a good sparring match, I’m surprised that the “media covered Democrats” are hurling darts over petty issues that are totally irrelevant to the political race. And, I’m not at all surprised that John Edwards, the other candidate, is behaving as a grown-up. Of course, I’m not sure what Dennis is doing, since for all practical purposes the media buried him a month or so ago.
But, on to the issue at hand. Hillary and Barack have successfully gleamed the limelight by fighting like children on a school yard. Bill is playing the school bully. I suppose back biting and cat clawing are more interesting than debating the issues. And, John is standing on the sidelines still talking about what’s important… how to save the country.
I’m not so naive as to think that John Edwards is the only one with a plan for the country. Unfortunately, he is the only one talking about the issues, the real issues that is. Barack and Hillary both have mentioned economic policies and health care in recent weeks, but for the most part their rhetoric has digressed into a mud slinging wrestling match or worse. Why don’t we just go back to snapping pictures of Britney without her undies? That’s about how relevant the mud slinging is to the Democratic party. And, quite honestly, for some, I dare say Britney was more interesting.
It has become obvious that both Hillary and Barack are more interested in “winning” than in “healing”. It is starting to seem more and more that the two celebrity candidates have taken their egos too seriously, and are acting out for media attention like poor little starlets who will do anything to be seen. I am totally turned off by the degradation this is causing the Democratic Party. And, I’m sure the Republicans are loving it.
Would someone please remind Heckle and Jeckle that this election is not about them? It’s about our country.
Again, I support John Edwards one hundred percent. As if I needed another reason to support him… and I don’t… this bickering between Clinton and Obama is a good one.
Perhaps, one of the most disappointing outcomes of this fighting folly is that the media is covering it with a vigor that is unparalleled. I would like to think… and I don’t… that they are just going for ratings. But, in truth, I believe it is more about John Edwards than about the slugfest. The media is controlled by big corporate America and if there is one thing the big media couldn’t tolerate it would be John Edwards in the Oval Office. He owes them nothing. And, when you aren’t beholding to the power of corporate America, they have but one agenda and that is to bury you. They’ve already taken Dennis out of the race… and Ron Paul for that matter. There is no room for an unobligated man (or woman) in the White House.
The political race is far from over. And, the American people still have the opportunity to stand tall and tell our candidates, of both parties, that we are not interested in their personal agendas. It’s a disgrace to women and black Americans, the way these two candidates have sunk into the mudslide.
That said, there are a few cable newscasters who have offered John Edwards an opportunity to express his views in a mature way that is becoming of a presidential candidate. Keith Olberman has given Edwards a proper platform to voice his views. Let’s face it folks, even playing with David Letterman displayed far more class than the dynamic duo have in recent days.
Diversion and distraction are good for those who have nothing more to offer. Remember how Bush distracted us right into Iraq?
The real issues are univeral health care, economic recovery, ending the war in Iraq, education, homeless veterans, and taking back America for Americans. At this time, John Edwards is the only candidate on point. Maybe that’s because he’s the only Democratic candidate who isn’t afraid to discuss the issues and his plans for our future.
