Sen. Chris Dodd Takes on FISA
Statement from Chris Dodd:
”Few things are more detrimental to this country than the erosion of and attack on the civil liberties we enjoy. This isn’t a Democratic issue or a Republican issue; this is an American issue. If after debate, the Senate appears ready to pass legislation granting telecom providers retroactive immunity I will use any and all legislative tools at my disposal, including a filibuster, to prevent this deeply flawed bill from becoming law. More and more, Americans are rejecting the false choice that has come to define this administration: security or liberty, but never, ever both. For all those who have stood with me throughout this fight, I pledge, once more, to stand up for you.”
As we all know, our civil liberties have been greatly diminshed over the past several years. January 24, 2008, Senator Chris Dodd will filibuster to prevent the FISA bill from being passed.
Please remember that while our soldiers are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq and as our veterans have fought to protect our freedoms and those of others, our government, House of Representatives and Senate, and the present administration are aggressively passing legislation that removes our rights and freedoms.
The FISA bill, that will allow our government to continue to secretly spy on American citizens will be brought to the floor of the Senate today. Senator Chris Dodd has pledged to filibuster the bill in his effort to protect our rights. There are men and women, all around the world that are willing to sacrifice their lives for our freedoms, the same freedoms our elected officials are attempting to take from us. One way of showing our support for those who are willing to fight and die for our freedoms is to call our senators and representatives and demand that they fight for our rights at home.
It’s the least we can do. Contact your Senators. Ask them to stand with Sen. Dodd to support our rights and protect our freedoms.
