Edwards on the Trail and on the Issues

It still looks like Obama is going to take the majority of delegates in South Carolina, but the dark side of the Clinton campaign has brought out the sunshine for John Edwards.

Now, we all know that polls aren’t worth the paper they are printed on, but…. the latest South Carolina poll numbers show Edwards gaining on Clinton as Obama, with a firm lead, is beginning to slip in the polls.  “The State”, South Carolina’s leading newspaper says that since the Monday night debate Edwards has been rising in the polls.

Again, I am a firm believer that the media is working as much against Edwards as possible, eliminating him from their nightly news coverages and from any comparisons among the candidates.  But, Edwards’ rise shows that when his message is heard, he gains support.  The Pot and The Kettle are so wrapped up in name calling and cat clawing that maybe they are beginning to neutralize one another, as sad as that situation is.

According to The Guardian, a UK newspaper who isn’t afraid to cover Edwards’ candidacy, reported Edward’s reponse to the new economic stimulus package:

John Edwards, trailing in the Democratic primaries, was the first candidate to seize on early liberal frustration with the stimulus plan. Edwards has irked some of his former colleagues in Congress by pressuring them to take a harder line against Bush, but he did not shrink from doing it again yesterday.

“This is another example of Washington deserting working people and the middle class … The Congress needs to stand its ground,” Edwards said. “They need to insist on unemployment insurance modernisation.”

Folks, it’s heating up and if there is another bit of good news, at least from where I sit, John Edwards will be making a stop in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Monday.  Tennessee is a red state.  I don’t know why, but it has been in the red (in every way) ever since I moved here.  To paraphrase Crystal Gayle’s song as it should be sung to Edwards, “Won’t you make my red state blue?”
