John McCain wins Florida. Mitt Romney takes second and Rudy Giuliani comes in third and so on down the line.
I’m certain some of the press and pundits will label McCain as a solid frontrunner. McCain may have taken Florida and the fifty-seven delegates, but isn’t it too early to tell who the nominee will be?
I guess my point is it would make life much simpler for both parties to have an “either/or” choice. It seems that some of the candidates are disappearing by the attrition of general support and funding. Yet, there are always those die hard candidates who just won’t go away. That’s what keeps it interesting.
For example, in the Democratic primaries there is John Edwards. He is trailing the two frontrunners. In the case of the Republicans, there is Mike Huckabee and perhaps Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul. They are all trailing far behind the leaders of the packs at this point.
Maybe I have enough confidence in the voters to believe that some will continue to cast their votes in favor of the candidate who most represents the person they want for President. At some point to be sure, there will be voting against a candidate instead of for one. But, there is a place for that in our republic.
Of all the issues in the primary season, the one that baffles me the most is the way we divide up the delegates. But, there will be time to discuss that as we have delegates to count. For now, we will watch the big dogs of each party forge ahead with the third place candidate nipping at their heels, waiting for one of the frontrunners to trip and fall.
