Hooray for the Senate! Can the House Back Them Up on the Stimulus Package?

The stimulus package, which is definitely going to be too late to do any real stimulation of the economy, was upgraded today to cover the old and the poor and disabled veterans.  The Senate managed to get it through and it didn’t take a year to do it.

Obviously, it was more than the President wanted and more than the House had the guts to ask for, but it is the right thing to do.  Actually, the older and poorer citizens, and all our disabled veterans need the stimulus more than the rest of the country.  I’m not trying to take anything away from anyone, but let’s get real.  The older people and those with disabilities are the hardest hit when the economy tanks.  With social security and disability benefits increasing by a hair over 2% in January, the first increase in years, the ones who need the most help continue to get the least.

The poor, the elderly, and the disabled are not going away.  They are American citizens and deserve as much of the stimulus package as the other citizens.  In all probability, they have more bills for necessities than the rest of America.  Please note, I said for “necessities”.

The Senate finally got the kahunas to stand up and add what everyone knew was right… except those on the right.  Well, it’s now up to the House to put their stamp on the bill.  And, maybe the Decider will grace us with a random (and rare) act of kindness by signing it.

Let’s just hope the treasury can print up enough money to get it out to the citizens before the presses need to be oiled… or before the first bill comes for summer air conditioning.  From the way it’s looking, it’s going to be a long hot summer.
