Oh, for God’s sake! What the hell is Michael Mukasey thinking? Nada. Nothing. Nil. Incapable! Waterboarding IS torture! Period.
Yet, according to Mukasey, waterboarding would be considered torture if done to him, but not when done to others of the administrations choice? Is there any wonder that Ted Kennedy looked shocked and appalled? Mukasey’s answer, in effect, said he was above the Bush-Cheney law but that in some cases (probably most) waterboarding was not to be considered torture. The end justifies the means… if only in the minds of old men.
Even CIA Director Michael Hayden understands that waterboarding is torture. So, what the hell is wrong with Mukasey’s thinking… or does he?
If Michael Mukasey believes that waterboarding is anything but torture someone in the Senate needs to call for his resignation. Stop pussy-footing around with the man and do whatever is necessary to get him out of the AG office. The man obviously doesn’t get it. His thinking has been as warped (and as manipulated) by the Bush administration as was his predecessor’s.
We have a a few days less than a year before we have a new president and that is too long for someone like Mukasey to sit as Attorney General. He is obviously a Bush/Cheney puppet and thinks the Constitution and the laws of our land are based on “Cheney’s Law“. (This is a must see from PBS.)
Mukasey has talked in riddles trying to explain his way around having to declare that waterboarding is torture. So, he decided it’s okay in some cases, not in others. Who makes that determination in the field? Who makes that determination legally? Mukasey? It’s just more B.S. and time consuming jargon from a man who has proved himself to have more shock value than Howard Stern and Don Imus as a tag team.
I believe with all my heart that when the Senate (if it does) digs to the bottom of this whole waterboarding controversy, it will be discovered that Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld (now pastured) are proponents of the evil deed. And, I believe that in some way, shape, or manner the holy trinity led the way by allowing if not encouraging waterboarding of the three known victims. God only knows how many unknown detainees may have been tortured.
It is a disgrace to our country that this is even a part of the national dialogue. And, it’s time that Mukasey stopped trying to cover for and protect his bosses. Or, we need to get rid of him…. now!
