The Week in Review

The Senate (Asses) folded under Republican pressure and the threat of a veto from President Bush when it came to the warrantless wiretapping and allowing amnesty for the telecom companies.

The House (Asses) stood up to the the Elephants and the same veto threat from President Bush.  The Republicans, like an angry housewife, walked out.

Now, fear mongering from the Right is running rampant, supposing the current Protect America Act runs out this weekend.  Again the Republicans are attempting to scare the votes out of the Democrats.  Well, let’s hope the House Democrats are no more fearful that the rest of America.  It seems more and more that we need a “protect America act” to protect us (we, the people) from ourselves… or from the Republicans.

FEMA admitted that the trailers provided to the victims of Katrina are deadly.  After two years of health complaints, not allowing their own FEMA workers to enter the trailers, and a CDC expose of formaldehyde levels that were up to five times greater than in a modern house, the Katrina victims were told to move ASAP.

But, on the other hand, the left over trailers parked on an airstrip in Arkansas will be disbursed to the Super Tuesday tornado victims in Arkansas and Tennessee.  These trailers are from the same lot that has been determined unsafe for habitation.  FEMA plans to open the doors and windows and air them out before placing people in them.  I guess they don’t get it.

All the Bushes seem to be endorsing John McCain.  Additionally, Mitt Romney has thrown his support to McCain.  And, John who is beginning to remind me more and more of Popeye the Sailor Man, pretty much has it sewn up on the Right after voting for waterboarding as an acceptable interrogation method.

Mike Huckabee says it may take a miracle for him to get the nomination, but he’s expecting one.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are slugging it out, nitpicking for each and every delegate.  For this week, Obama is in the lead and it seems that some of Clinton’s pledge Super Delegates are backing out on her and heading towards the momentum.  Obama’s camp seems to be getting a little cocky now that they are a delegate or two ahead.  Texas could take care of that.

On the bright side, Obama did give a very substantive speech in Wisconsin, for thirty-eight minutes outlining his economic policy.  It seems that Barack has hit his stride, balancing between the inspirational messages of hope and change and the policy speeches that spell out his plans.  Early on in the campaign, he had been criticized for talking too much policy.  Recently he has been criticized for talking too much inspiration and change, but not giving us the facts.  Maybe his new plan is to alternate between the two messages.

Hillary has been cleaning house.  She dumped her Latina campaign manager late last week, her deputy manager this week.  And, it seems that all hell is breaking loose among her planners.  Nothing like imploding when the going gets tough.  Publicly, the words are the same, even a little more harsh towards her opponent.  But, her face is showing fatigue and frustration.  Like it or not, the energy field surrounding her has gone from positive to negative.  Let’s hope she gets it together over the weekend.

Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee went head to head before a House committee, each telling his opposing version of the tale of the steroids.  I’m sure there was a good reason for bringing the issue before Congress.  I just can’t figure it out when we have national issues that seem far more important.

The Navy is going to shoot a defunct satellite out of the sky some time next week to keep it from hitting us here on earth and spreading the toxins inside it.  Well, I suppose the Star Wars program prepared us for something.

And, once again a student who decided not to take his medication decided to take his gun(s) and kill fellow students on the campus of Northern Illinois University.

It snowed outside San Diego.  We enjoyed spring in Tennessee.

Well, I guess nothing has changed this week… just different names and different places.  But, the government is hell bent on scaring us into acquiesing to threats of unknown fear.  We have nothing to fear but fear itself… or FEMA who is evacuating NOLA residents from toxic trailers and sending toxic trailers to Arkansas and Tennessee.

The Democrats are afraid to stand up for what they believe.  It’s time to vote them out of the Senate… we will know what we should do about the House after this weekend.  The political campaigns are having their ups and downs.  Baseball goes to Washington.  The Navy is aiming for the stars… or at least a satellite.

And, it snowed where the sun shines most.  The sun shone where we were expecting winter.

Looking back, the week seems filled with absurdities.
