He Said, She Said, but Who Really Said It? And, Who Cares?

» by sinde in: Opinion

I guess with primaries tomorrow in Wisconsin and Hawaii, we have no issues to discuss… at least no real issues.  So, today we are still discussing who said what, when, and if a line from an Obama speech was plagiarized.

Anyone who makes a good one liner… or a great two liner would love to have credit for it, but let’s get real.  We all are impressed by a phrase or a line or two that we have read or heard somewhere.  And, all to often the catch phrase integrates into our daily speech.

Who was the first to say, “WHATEVER!”  “Talk to the hand” is another line we have heard here, there and everywhere especially if you have young people in your family.  But, none of us give credit for the line to anyone, except maybe “anonymous”.

So, while it is obvious that Barack Obama borrowed a line from the governor of Massachusetts and has since acknowledged it, is that a real campaign issue?  If it is, we have a problem.

I would much prefer to hear Senator Clinton discuss how she is going to work to get her universal health care program through Congress than to hear her criticize and call into question Senator Obama’s integrity.

With all the pressing issues that are taking our country down the hatch, I can’t understand the importance of trying to make an issue of such insignificant occurrence.  Let’s face it, Senator Obama didn’t stand before a crowd and start with “Four score and seven years ago…” and if he had, I doubt he (or anyone else) would have mentioned Lincoln.  And, no one says, “I am quoting Martin Luther King, Jr.  ‘I have a dream.’”

Don’t misunderstand my point.  I am not going to excuse plagiarism, but let it be consequential before we go off questioning one’s integrity and character.

Now, anyone got any ideas on how we are going to fix the economy?
