Wisconsin Winners: Obama and McCain
There’s very little to say about the Wisconsin primary. Everything went as expected for Barack Obama and John McCain. Hillary Clinton is off to raise money to sustain her campaign. Huckabee is still hanging around.
John McCain has the Republican nomination all but locked up. There’s nothing more to say about that.
On the other hand, as Barack Obama slowly and steadily increases his delegate lead, the question that remains is if he has gathered enough momentum to win Texas and Ohio next week. With eleven consecutive wins in his column, it would seem that Obama should be widening the lead, although a recent Gallop poll shows Clinton closing the gap. Is it going to be too little too late for the lady in the race? Or, does she have a few tricks left up her sleeves (or Bill’s)?
For one, I would like to see someone take a true frontrunner status on the Blue State side. I’m starting to see cracks in the party line that could become canyons if someone doesn’t tie up the nomination, or at least show a distinctive lead. The last thing we need is to see the party divided over mudslinging accusations that serve no purpose except to divide.
So, let’s hope the next few weeks will push either Obama or Clinton into the coveted frontrunner status. We have enjoyed about as much of the tit for tat as we can for one year. And, while the process is quite envigorating, the potential divide isn’t worth losing the White House.
