Dull Democratic Debate in Cleveland Offers No Knock Out Punch

Brian Williams and Tim Russert moderated the debate in Cleveland.  The candidates, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, wrangled briefly over NAFTA and spent 16 minutes debating the minutiae of their respective health care plans.  Beyond that there was little of interest.

Thank goodness there was little whining once Hillary got over the point that she was asked the questions first before Barack, supposing there was an advantage to going second.  And, she did a bit about the SNL skit that opened the first live Saturday Night since the writers’ strike, claiming that even SNL realized that Barack received preferential attention.  Well, the poor pitiful me didn’t work on SNL or in tonight’s debate.  Hillary was wise enough to let it go.

Brian Williams showed video clips to each of the candidates from their stump stomping this week and asked for a reaction.  Of course, by now Hillary’s rendition of opening up the skies and letting the sun shine in and Obama’s take on Clinton’s campaign trying to claim a part in the good but not the bad that occurred in the previous B. Clinton’s White House is old news and didn’t create the tension hoped for.

Both candidates were forceful when needed, but neither scored a knock out.  In fact, there was nothing new of any relevance in tonight’s debate.  Twenty down and nothing left to say.
