Bill Cunningham Run Over By Straight Talk Express
Talk show host, Bill Cunningham is less than apologetic about his rally round up at the John McCain stump stop in Cincinnati. John McCain did apologize for Mr. Cunningham’s remarks… after the rally.
“John McCain threw me under a bus — under the ‘Straight Talk Express,’ ” Bill Cunningham told CNN on Tuesday, referring to McCain’s campaign bus.
Earlier Tuesday, Cunningham spoke at a McCain campaign event in Cincinnati and called Obama a “hack, Chicago-style Daley politician.”
“All is going to be right with the world when the great prophet from Chicago takes the stand, and the world leaders who want to kill us will simply be singing ‘Kumbaya’ around the table of Barack Obama,” the commentator told the crowd.
Bill Cunningham explained his love for Muslims.
In his first public comment since Tuesday’s event, Cunningham defended his use of Hussein, which he called “a proud Muslim name.”
“I have nothing but respect for my Muslim brothers and sisters,” he said. “The ones who oppose that particular name, they’re the ones with the problem, not me. His name is Barack Hussein Obama.”
The name is Barack Hussein Obama. No one will dispute that. But, sometimes the words aren’t damaging, but rather the delivery and the context. If anyone wants to fall into the rhetoric of explanation trap, go ahead. Leap head first. But, we all know exactly what the rally-rouser was saying and what he meant.
Now, the driver of the Straight Talk Express did apologize and take responsibility. But, that’s what we all do when caught with our hands in the cookie jar. It’s easier to apologize than to get approval. Isn’t that what we have all been taught? Well, let’s assume for the sake of conversation that Senator McCain is on the up and up with his apology. We will wait and see how sincere it was as the campaign goes on.
But, let’s not close our eyes to the fact that politics can get down and dirty. It’s just a terrible shame and reflection on the lack of intelligent content that these express tracks leave on the body of Bill Cunningham.
