Chattanooga Sends Water to Atlanta Capitol

Okay, so let’s talk about stupid stuff!

Georgia wants to take a mile of Tennessee, moving the state line one mile north of the previously recognized state line.  Of course, there is a reason.  With Georgia’s state line being moved one mile to the north along the southeastern border of Tennessee, Georgia would gain access to a small corner of the Tennessee River.

Well, it seems that with Georgia running out of water, a situation that was highly reported throughout the summer and fall, Georgia has tried to gain water from Florida and Alabama to no avail.  So, the Georgia legislature dug up an old survey of the state line that shows that the line was improperly located more than a hundred years ago.

Twice in the past, before most of us were born, Georgia attempted to recover the one mile of territory.  Each time it was denied.  For years, the issue has been dormant.  But, now with the water shortage Georgia has once again begun the process to grab the magic mile.  The Georgia legislature took the first steps by passing bills in their House and Senate.  Tennessee has now taken up the issue, relentlessly holding onto the land.

So, the rather silly debate continues, each state bowing its chest and blowing hot air.  Not to be outdone in the silliness area, today Chattanooga, the area affected by the debate, sent a truck carrying a palette of bottled water to the Capitol building in Atlanta, compliments of Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield.

Oh, please.  While I’m sure someone somewhere considers this cute, it only represents the total insanity of local and state governments.  It seems to me that an amicable resolution can be worked out.  Of course, from where I sit in Tennessee I’m not a big fan of being relocated to Georgia, even if I don’t have to move.  But, if this were a football game, Tennessee would be penalized for taunting.
