President Bush Speaks of Fear Following FISA Stall

This morning President Bush urged the Congress to pass the FISA bill, allowing telecoms amnesty.  Without the bill passed into law, we should all live in fear.  Well, fear is the message of this administration… and the obvious Republican nominee for the White House.

Apparently, the present administration believes fear to be the greatest motivator and since the House has turned a deaf ear to the fear mongering, he spoke in a new conference to the American people.  Maybe he can scare us.

Unfortunately for those who want to listen in on our telephone conversations, some of us have realized that giving up our freedoms and rights as U.S. citizens isn’t a balanced trade off for his version of the FISA bill.  We must continue to call our Representatives and Senators and keep the pressure on.  And, for those who fail to support our freedoms, we must bear in mind that they will be up for election soon enough.

One of the most interesting comments came when one reporter mentioned that gas could soar to $4.00 a gallon in the near future.  Bush replied that he had not heard the expectations.  I suppose that kind of makes me wonder is he listens to anything, or do those who surround him keep him oblivious to what is going on in the country until they have laid a plan to monetize the situation for their own benefit.

I mention that based on the statement President Bush made saying we should not try to increase the taxes on the oil companies.  I suppose he doesn’t think a company with a $100 Billion dollar profit can pay more than 1% in taxes.  And, naturally his alternative to the high price of imported oil is to drill in Alaska and other parts of the U.S., an idea that has not been able to materialize due to political opposition.  Again, that brings to mind the Roadless Rule and makes me wonder if there is oil waiting to be pumped beneath the surface of our wilderness areas.

Bush said he doesn’t expect a recession.  I’m sorry I just can’t comment further on that.  We are there, whether Pennsylvania Avenue and Wall Street will admit it or not.  Go to the gas pump.  Go to the grocery market.  I would go further, but those are all I can still afford.

The press conference offered little beyond the same old, same old, mostly attempting to instill fear in the general public and gain ground for political cronies once he leaves office.  That’s what it’s all about now, isn’t it?  Setting up his friends for the future.
