Beware The Ides of March: McCain Goes to Iraq and Europe
Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain is heading off to Europe and the Middle East, expecting to be in Iraq around the 18th of March. I guess that’s better than having him in Washington.
Senator McCain seems to be taking a victory lap before the race begins, or perhaps, I am more reminded of a debutante after the coming out ball. I don’t know if our mothers thought we were going to break bad immediately or what, but we were shipped off to Europe to raise a little hell before settling down to college. It seems now that John McCain has wrapped up the Republican nomination, he is off on a whirlwind tour… to sow some wild oats or to come of age. Well, let’s hope he’s going to sow. He’s already come of age and passed it.
The announcements I have read in the media of this tour seems to indicate that he is traveling as the president-elect, expecting to be greeted as the next leader of the free world. Not going to happen. This is the man who voted against the anti-torture bill and believes we should keep troops in Iraq until kingdom come. Well, at least he will be the right part of the world. But, I doubt in light of his latest vote supporting torture as an accepted means of interrogation there will be open arms awaiting him.
