Dick Cheney met with key Iraqi leaders while in Baghdad and other parts of the country.  Did he broker a deal, making commitments for our nation beyond the rule of King George XLIII?

There has been talk that Bush and Cheney were willing to tie our troops to Iraq beyond their reign.  Democrats and some Republicans have expressed concern that as a last act of commitment the Bush regime would make a deal with Iraq that could tie the hands of the next president.

With Cheney flying under the radar and Republican nominee John McCain being present in Iraq at the same time, it seems that the time may have been right for negotiations for future commitments.  Both Bush and Cheney have asserted that they do not need Congressional approval to make agreements with Iraq.

The real question is, how far will this administration go to tie the hands of the next president and Congress while securing commitments and agreements with Iraq…. and to what ends?
