John McCain Gets Free Ride and Frightening and Old Endorsements
John McCain has stumbled through his recent comments, often naming one terrorist faction when he meant another, delaying his statement on “economic policy” until someone tells him what his policy is, accepting the endorsement of John Hagee (it’s been said he asked for the endorsement), and appearing with Nancy Reagan while accepting her endorsement.
Has anyone of the media called him out on his misstatements? The media seems to be chattering that he is getting a free ride. Yet, not the first one of them will call him out. In fact, while many has mentioned his faux pas, none have called him on the carpet. Instead, it seems that he is excused for his error without demand of explanation or questioning.
So, let’s see what we know about Senator McCain. And, I will say that ten years ago, I would not have been so opposed to his candidacy. He has stammered, stumbled and spoken incorrectly not once, but several times…. after being corrected by the parrot on his shoulder, Joe Lieberman. The error of calling Iranian terrorists “Al-Qaeda” when in actuality the two factions are opposing forces, can only be attributed to one of two reasons. Either John McCain is not the strongest on foreign policy, as he claims, or he is having repeated senior moments, which he denies.
Senator McCain has said that economics is not his strong suit on more than one occasion, but when questioned about his previous statements during a debate, he denied having made the statements of his lack of knowledge. Of course, he seems to know people who do know about economics.
And, there is no wonder that Senator McCain does not step in the Obama-Wright controversy. He knows better. Asking for and accepting the endorsement of John Hagee is enough to keep most intelligent people from marking his name in the voting booth.
And, last but not least, the endorsement of Nancy Reagan… Everyone respects Mrs. Reagan, if not for her politics, for her undying devotion to her husband. That is a compliment to life and love. But, as I watched her endorsement, I had to admit that I was almost fearful that either Mrs. Reagan or Senator McCain would topple down the two steps before reaching the podium. The appearance of the two together looked old and weak.
The bottom line is simple. Even if I agreed with Senator McCain’s politics… and I do not… he gives the appearance of a weak old doddering man, who from time to time has lapses in memory. That is not the face of our nation.
