Spinning Out of Control

Everyone likes to add a little bit of spin to a story.  Recently, Hillary Clinton has mentioned her part in settling the Irish controversy with the English.  She talked to some women on the scene and encouraged them.  She went to Bosnia and claimed she had been under fire.  She’s been under more fire for that statement than she ever had a chance of seeing on the trip.  Today she is talking about her family leave act participation.  Didn’t happen.

I’m not just aiming for Hillary.  There have been several issues that Obama has claimed that he helped get through the Senate.  Well, yeah.  If a candidate voted for a bill, he or she can claim that he/she helped get it passed.  But… lots of Senators voted.

John McCain insinuates that because he was a P.O.W. that he is better qualified to be the next president.  Well, I’m not going to be the one to knock Senator McCain’s honorable service, but let’s just say that there was more than one prisoner, and quite a few came home with worse disabilities than not being able to raise their arms.  Of course, we are proud of all our service people, those who were caught and became prisoners and those who fought and didn’t get captured… and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.  But, to claim that being a P.O.W. qualifies someone for president, is a play on our heartstrings.

Some of the credit our candidates are taking for bills that have passed and for their so-called importance on a visit to a foreign land is about as credible as me saying that I played a big part in the development of our space program because I spent a summer on Merritt Island watching rockets being launched when I was ten.  And, I still don’t have any idea how those rockets are launched.
