BernieHund: The Political Watchdog

If there is one thing that has to be said about Senator Clinton, she has made a swimming pool full of lemonade from the lemons that have been thrown at her.

With money running out, a campaign in debt for several million dollars, and many Democrats calling for her to step out of the race for the White House, Senator Clinton has once again begun to make lemonade.  I’m not sure it will do any good or raise any money, but we have to admit that she can make a silk purse from a sow’s ear… except in Bill’s case, and there is nothing that can be done with him.

The timing couldn’t have been better for the senator.  Stumping through a state that has seen as much unemployment and economic demise as any state in the union, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia in particular was the place for the Rocky symbolism to come into play.  And, play it she has.

Poor underdog.  Poor woman.  Hillary Clinton portrayed herself as the downtrodden Rocky Balboa running up the steps to success.  And, of course, that plays right into the votes of the Pennsylvanians who know how it feels to be down and out.  Hillary has put herself in their shoes at their dinner tables, saying that “they” want me to quit.  “They” know I am the underdog and “they” want me to give up. 

Of course, that should garner a few extra votes.  The people of Pennsylvania identify with Hillary’s scenario.  And, with a little bit of a twist, she should be able to persuade them that she is in the same boat, paddling against the current, against all odds.  She is the fighter.  She is the new Rocky.  And, some of the voters will buy into it.
