Obama, Clinton and McCain Star and Spar

It’s primary eve again.  Thank goodness all the foreplay is almost over.  Before the pundits put the spin on tomorrow’s results, it is expected that Hillary Clinton will take Kentucky and Barack Obama will gain the majority of delegates from Oregon.

So what’s going on?  Hillary Clinton campaigned in Kentucky saying it is her state.  “I’m going to make my case and I’m going to make it until there is a nominee.”  She’s come this far, so let’s just finish the ride.  With three primaries left after tomorrow’s vote there is little need for Clinton to step aside now.

Over the weekend, Barack Obama entertained somewhere between 65,000 and 80,000 citizens in Portland, Oregon.  It was the largest turn-out to date.  Actually, I’ve been to rock concerts that didn’t have that many attendees.  And, true to form Obama lived up to his rock star status.

John McCain is still on the trail, chastising Obama for wanting to meet with leaders of countries who are on our “enemy list.”  Enough already.  I suppose I have missed the point.  McCain is trying to spin any potential meeting as being naive.  But, the truth is had it not been for those who visited China in the 1970’s, those doors would still be closed.  Had Kennedy not talked to Russian leaders during the Cuban missile crisis, there is no telling how that situation would have ended.

So, let’s clear the decks here.  Of course, Obama should extend diplomacy to all nations and leaders.  This is not a sign of weakness as some are trying to portray it.  To hear the spin, it sounds as if Obama as president would just hop a plane and stop by Iran for a chat.  If anyone believes that, they are probably still in that small group who insists that Barack Obama is a Muslim.  And, yes.  There are still some of those folks out there.

McCain was far more impressive when he was trying to tell his story and set his own agenda.  Once again, we see him being drawn off point, grabbing to the Bush coattails, and looking like a third term President McBush.

In the meantime, Obama has tossed some grenades into the McCain camp, tying McCain to lobbyists.  That’s a hard one to deny since McCain has lost 5 top advisers in the past ten days, all resigning after being tied to or labeled as lobbyists.  Maybe he should have vetted them before he welcomed them to the campaign staff.

And, in closing I have to mention a short quote I saw in Daily Kos

Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party’s presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

“John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross,” Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. “He never denounced God, either.”

Oh, please…
