Karl Rove Will Not Honor Subpoena
Letter from Karl Rove’s attorney to Rep. John Conyers
Karl Rove’s attorneys continue to claim immunity, stating that Rove will not appear before the House committee to testify. A copy of the letter in pdf form is linked above.
Rove has been expected to appear to testify before the House for some time now in relation to the outing of Valerie Plame, former CIA agent and wife of Joe Wilson. Apparently, this is not going to happen. First there was an invitation. Then there was the subpoena. Now the answer is NO.
It’s July and the wrangling will probably go on long of enough everyone to lose interest. That’s what happens in Washington. By the time the present administration leaves office, Congress will have their attention diverted to other issues. By the time any action is taken the news will be so old that it will be on page A 26 of any current newspaper. And, as usual, we will all be looking forward instead of back over our shoulders. And, Rove will go about his life having stalled his way out of any explanations.
In the meantime, Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is bringing his Articles of Impeachment to the House floor today for a vote. It is a valiant effort on the part of Kucinich, but the vote will fail because no one in Congress wants to delve into the issues. Instead, it seems that most of the House and Senate are willing to hang on by a thread and try wait out the turn over in administrations, hoping that Bush will not have time to screw up any more of what’s left of our shredded foreign policy.
