Barack Obama’s Speech
Text of Speech on Elephants and Asses.
Was the speech overwhelming or underwhelming? The presentation was not of the same calibre as some of the more passionate speeches we have seen from Barack Obama. There was not as much of the high flying rhetoric or vague lofty ideals that Hillary Clinton once chided Obama for. As the acceptance speech ended, I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed that I didn’t feel like going outside to dance in the streets.
Of course, in true Obama style, the speech was well delivered and there were moments that brought tears to my eyes. However, it was not a speech that I will be quoting too many lines from in the future. But, in truth, Barack Obama did exactly what he needed to do tonight.
With more eyes on him tonight, in the Mile High Stadium and across tv-land, than ever before, Barack Obama delivered his message of hope backed up by specifics. Obama hit his points one by one, eliminating any further discussion of his lack of substance. Obama hit George Bush on failed policies. And, Obama challenged John McCain directly.
Barack Obama spoke to our national defense, clearly stating that we should be strong militarily, but use the military power wisely. We should all now understand that Barack Obama and Democrats in general are willing to defend our country militarily, but only when military action is necessary.
Obama hit the mark. He told America who he is, where he came from, and where he wants to lead our country. For those Americans who do not “know” Barack Obama (and I suppose there are a few who are out there somewhere) it was a complete introduction. For those of us who “know” him well, speech by speech, it was a rhetorical let down.
