The Taming of the Shrew
Sarah Palin has made it her cause of late… that of accusing the media of going soft on the Democrats and the Obama/Biden ticket. She has called for harsher questions and a demand for relevant answers.
But, it seems that all Republican supporters are willing to demand stricter, more in depth questioning of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The clip above could be subtitled “Grumpy Old Men” except Palin is no Ann Margaret.
Apparently, those Republican supporters don’t seem to mind that Lady Sarah doesn’t know the name of any of the magazines or newspapers she reads, can’t think of a single Supreme Court case that she would like to see changed, and that Lady Sarah will refuse to answer the questions she is asked and then ramble through a statement that can only remind one of the poor little Miss Teenage South Carolina contestant.
But, let us not forget that the governor is an expert on energy and energy policies as stated time and time again by John McCain and the governor herself. Well, an expert until today when the governor had trouble explaining if the government bans oil exports, especially from her state. When asked in a town hall meeting if 75% of the oil drilled in Alaska was being sold to China, Palin seemed a little confused.
“No. It’s not 75 percent of our oil being exported,” Palin said, suggesting some of Alaska’s oil, in fact, may be going abroad but not that much.
“In fact,” she added, “Congress is pretty strict on, um, export bans of oil and gas especially.”
So, what’s the answer?
No Alaska oil has been exported since 2004, and little if any since 2000, according to the Energy Information Administration and the Congressional Research Service.
And Congress has never imposed outright bans on oil exports. Congress prohibited exports of Alaska oil in 1973 when the Alaska oil pipeline was built. But that ban was lifted in 1996 when there were large volumes of Alaska oil coming down from the North Slope and U.S. demand was soft.
Okay, so that’s not a big thing. But, if that is her one area of expertise (she has certainly proved she has no others) it just seems that she could be directly on point on one thing.
