Barack Obama to Grow Grass Roots

For all of us who supported President-Elect Barack Obama, particularly some of us older voters, it has come as a pleasant surprise that at least for now Barack Obama’s team is still watering the grass roots.

Following the announcement of Obama’s election on November 4th an email was sent out, before his Grant Park appearance, saying that all of us should stay tuned for our next assignment. Yesterday, his team sent out an email with a brief questionnaire gathering information on our interests.

You’ve built an organization in your community and across the country that will continue to work for change — whether it’s by building grassroots support for legislation, backing state and local candidates, or sharing organizing techniques to effect change in your neighborhood.

The closing line of the email seemed to indicate that we will be a part of the future.

Thanks to you, this country has an historic opportunity. Electing Barack was the first big step, but there’s a lot of challenging and important work ahead.

Perhaps it’s wishful thinking or maybe a shread of hope for the future, but it seems that we, the people, could become citizens again. We may become a part of the solution, not just bystanders.
