In what was a surprise for me, Mitt Romney withdrew from the GOP race just minutes ago. Who would have thought? But, I am guessing that someone in his campaign figured out the ROI. And, his return was something like a one delegate per one million dollars.
Quite honestly, I would have thought that Huckabee would have been the one to fall by the wayside, but I’m sure his background theme will now be “Onward, Christian Soldiers”. I really don’t have anything against Christians. It’s just that it scares the hell out of me to see a presidential candidate who begins his political statements with Bible references. The evangelical Christian element must be overjoyed, but for those of us who aren’t a part of that particular movement, we are beginning to look at this campaign as something similar to the Sunni vs. Shia battle in Iraq.
We just don’t want to be left out. Of course, the other option riding on the elephant’s back is a warrior who seems to know nothing except war. That leads me to believe that if elected, in order to stay in his comfort zone, McCain will keep us in Iraq until doomsday. Oh! I hate I said that.
Well, Mitt Romney has provided us with enough controversy, proving that religion is an issue, at least among Republicans. He has also proved that America isn’t ready to sell the presidency. I’m sure it is about money among all the candidates, both Republican and Democrat, but Romney seemed to unabashedly think that he could buy the country in what some of us looked at as a hostile takeover.
So, here we are folks, McCain or Huckabee? Or, as I’m beginning to think, maybe both? Let’s face reality, Huckabee’s soft spoken evangelical message would bring in one side of the GOP that Romney couldn’t tap. And, it’s a 180 degree turn from the Straight Talk Express that seems to relish in pissing people off.
Well, I guess Huckabee described it best. It’s David vs. Goliath, except I think Goliath is going to win this one.
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!
