Gates and Buffett Team Up Again to Give

June 16, 2010

In 2006, Warren Buffett pledged 99% of his wealth to the Gates Foundation.  On June 15, 2010 Gates, Bill and Melinda, and Warren Buffett teamed up again to encourage other billionaires to give half their fortunes to a worthy cause.  The purpose is to encourage those who can best afford it to make a moral pledge of half their wealth, either while living or as a part of their wills.

The announcement was first announced in Forbes Magazine.  The only interview with the threesome was held on the Charlie Rose program.  Philanthropy is crucial according to Melinda Gates.  No one is asked to give to any specific organization.  Instead, the philanthropists are asked to consider what half their wealth could contribute to society.

According to Buffett, the idea is to start thinking about what each can do.  Bill Gates went on to emphasize the impact such giving could have on society and the world.  To date, four persons or couples have made the commitment.
