The first pictures were out this week of the Rolls-Royce Vauxhall Meriva with what are being called “FlexDoors” known to most Americans familiar with the old Lincoln Continental as suicide doors.  The idea is for ease of getting in and out.

To allay safety fears, Vauxhall says that the rear doors can only be opened by occupants when the car is stationary, with an automatic lock engaging as soon as the car pulls away.

Two “ground breaking features of the new Rolls:

FlexRail, a modular storage system that runs along the centre of the car’s floor, incorporating interchangeable cup-holders, cubbyholes or armrests, and an improved system for folding the rear seats flat and enabling them to be moved forward or aft, individually, to boost boot, leg or shoulder room.
