Many years ago I studied “Pygmalion in Management” by J. Sterling Livingston. Not surprisingly, it can still be found online and has been reviewed by Harvard. All that said, BernieHund is led to believe that somewhere in time President Obama has come across this writing. According to my memory, it has been around for decades. It still applies today.
The general premise is very simple. Tell the people what you expect and the people will strive to live up to those expectations. Please forgive this over simplification of a masterful work.
There are two basic parts to the premise. There is a leader and there are those who strive to please the leader. We have seen that there are no real leaders in Congress these days. Instead, most are playing a dumbed down version of John McCain’s maverick philosophy.
To that end, it is our request to the President that he step up to the plate and lay out his expectations for the nation. I know there will be discussion saying that he has told Congress what he wants. But, under the present conditions and having seen Congress behaving very badly of late, perhaps the President should begin treating those Reps and Senators as unruly children. Tell them exactly what he expects. Stop hinting at expectations. Lay it out in simple language.
Step up, Mr. President. We need a leader.
