Substitute Stimulus Bill Passes 1st Vote, Final Vote Noon Tomorrow

by sinde on February 9, 2009

The Nelson/Collins Stimulus substitute bill passed the Senate today by a vote of 61-36.

The text of the bill can be found here.

With the final vote scheduled in the Senate for noon tomorrow, the $829 Billion bill is still causing controversy.  Late today the Senate ended the debate and scheduled the noon vote for Tuesday.

Members of the House will meet once the Senate bill is passed to discuss it, although House members are not happy with the Senate version.  However, when the Senate bill is passed both houses of Congress will work together to  write the final bill for the President’s approval.

It looks as if we are getting closer, but “closer” isn’t a done deal.  Perhaps, the President will do a better selling job tonight when he addresses the nation.  So far, the House and the Senate have not come to terms with what each want to see in the final bill.

Today President Obama went on the road to hard hit areas to sell the stimulus package.  Tonight he will make his final big pitch to the American people and to those on the Hill.
