The Evangelicals Select Santorum and Tebow

Talk about a setback, talk about being betrayed by the home team, talk about being able to be beat Rick on his home court — and so on.  Well, this weekend a bunch of evangelicals got together in Texas, the home of RICK Perry, and voted to support RICK Santorum in his GOP presidential nomination bid.  Let’s just assume that there was one “OOPS!” too many days leading up to today’s little meeting.

As of this moment, in the most recent South Carolina primary polls, Mitt Romney is leading the field.  But, according to many Mitt isn’t conservative enough or Christian enough to carry the torch for the ultra-conservatives.  Anyway we look at it, the real problem is that Mitt is a Morman and in our ignorance, not knowing for sure what Mormans believe, we are not willing to risk the future of our nation on an outlier.

Of course, I can remember when John Kennedy ran for president.  His picture and the headlines “Can a Catholic Be President?” covered Life Magazine’s from cover.  If we were fifty years back in time Santorum would be as much an outsider as Romney.  It’s hard to believe that regardless of our Constitution, we as Americans still give the religious litmus test to the candidates.

On a lighter note and in another poll, 43.3% of those who took part believe that God, through divine intervention, helps Tim Tebow win.
