The Interview Everyone Who Cares About America Needs to See

by sinde on September 10, 2008

Last night on the Charlie Rose show Thomas L. Friedman was the guest.  His latest book, Hot, Flat and Crowded is on the book stands now.  Some of us had the opportunity to read it before it hit the book stores and it is in my opinion one of the most pertinent books written in years.

Friedman pulls no punches.  He tells it like he sees it.  The present book is just one of his insightful writings, but it applies to America today.  It is a book that every citizen should read prior to going to the voting booth in November.  Regardless of a person’s political views, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or any of the others, Thomas Friedman lays out many of the global issues facing America today as well as many of our national issues.

Mr. Friedman’s explanation of the problems facing the country and the hard line we as Americans must take to save ourselves and our country are well explained and eye opening.  The energy crisis, for example, is one that Friedman tackles… neither candidate having taken a strong enough stance or having told us the hard truth.  That is just one issue covered in this latest book.

Many of us, regardless of our political persuasion, know in our hearts and in our heads that our nation has settled for complacency in a world where foreign countries are striving for more.  We have settled for what is, rather than striving to achieve what can be.

In last night’s interivew Friedman compared the airport in Beijing to LaGuardia in New York, saying that it was like taking off from the Jetsons and landing with the Flintstones.  His analogy is sad, but true.
