Tony Hayward Before Congressional Sub-committee

The questioning of Tony Hayward has finally begun.  In fact, there is presently a one hour recess.  During the brief time that CEO Tony Hayward has been quizzed about the BP Gulf oil spill, we have learned three things of importance about Tony:

  • He doesn’t know.
  • He can’t recall.
  • He was not a part of that decision.

Well, that sums up his responses so far.  To expect more would probably be setting our sights too high.  After all, we must consider that with a criminal investigation of BP underway — according to the DOJ — Mr. Hayward certainly must have been advised by legal counsel prior to taking his seat at the table that he should say nothing.  Rather than refusing to answer the questions, Tony has taken the blank approach.  Of course, most attorneys advise their clients to have a selective memory, plead ignorance, or shift the blame.  Tony Hayward has mastered the art of being a good client.
